Facilities and resources

Mittagong public school has 523 students (as of 13/05/2025). The school has 20 mainstream classes and 3 support classes. The support classes are IM (mild intellectual disability), and MC (Multi categorical).

There are 34 teachers and a part time school counsellor. The teachers of the 3 support classes are assisted by full time School Learning Support Officers. The school has a permanent administrative manager, 2 administrative officers (admin 5 days) and a full time general assistant. There are 9 part time School Learning Support Officers who assist with the integration of students with special needs within mainstream classes.

New enrolments are always welcome for students residing in the school's local enrolment area. This area includes all of the town of Mittagong, and adjoining villages of Welby, Willow Vale, Balaclava, Natti Ponds, Renwick and Braemar as well as the surrounding rural areas. Students residing to the west of Mittagong along Wombeyan Caves Road and surrounds are also included in the school's local enrolment zone. Families living in other areas may apply for non-local enrolment. A special non-local enrolment application form for special consideration for a place at the school needs to be completed.

Mittagong Public School offers outstanding opportunities for student learning in a caring and supportive environment. The school has dedicated, experienced teachers. Our classroom programs have a strong academic emphasis with high standards achieved by many students. We also have a proud tradition of emphasis on performing arts and sporting success.

Parents are encouraged to be involved with their childrens progress at every level. This includes involvement in classroom, sporting and social activities as well as in policy and decision making through the P&C and School Council. Parents support healthy food choices for children by running a successful canteen.

Our school has a focus on providing individualised programs for students with special needs as well as enrichment and extension to inspire and challenge students.

The school boasts spacious, attractive grounds with up to date technology resources and a well-resourced, stimulating library. Excellent facilities like the assembly hall, covered areas and kitchen/craft room provide opportunities for special activities for students.
