Pastoral Care at Mittagong public school

Mittagong Public School cares about the wellbeing of all members of our school community. We want to see each student connect, succeed and thrive.

We have a dedicated Wellbeing team to provide additional support and care to encourage the students, staff and families of our school community.

We follow the Department of Education Wellbeing Framework which seeks to strengthen students in areas of cognitive, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development. https://education.nsw.gov.au/content/dam/main-education/student-wellbeing/whole-school-approach/Wellbeing_Framework_for_Schools.pdf

Our team comprises of our Assistant Principal - Learning Support and Wellbeing, Mrs Rebecca Hampton.

Wellbeing occurs through:

  • Identifying students who appear to be in need of wellbeing assistance.
  • Planning and providing one-to-one wellbeing and resilience support to children who may be distressed, upset or agitated.
  • Building a sense of community through organising group sessions with students, staff and care-givers as requested by the school.
  • Providing students, care-givers and staff with support or referrals for further assistance in difficult situations.
  • Regular daily 'check in' with each classroom.
